Most of us would agree that life isn’t getting any simpler. In our modern age of nearly endless information our lives seem to grow more and more complex with every passing day. With more choices to make, opinions to vet, and more noise to tune out, sorting through all that information can be downright exhausting. The question becomes how do we benefit from all the good information out there without becoming completely overwhelmed? It seems to me that the simple truths that have always guided us not only still apply but may be the only anecdote to our modern malady of information overload. With so many things and ideas vying for our attention and promising to make our lives better it can be easy to lose track of the things we all know deep down – like the fact that anything worth doing takes time, and if it seems too good to be true it probably is.
At Holly Storman Art & Stationery Co. we believe that not one of us needs another thing, routine, or responsibility that doesn’t make our lives more efficient or more beautiful. Our time is our most precious resource and it is constantly under threat. So many of us wake up as adults and realize that our lives have been simply swallowed up with maintenance tasks! One of the less attractive simple truths in life is that everything, and I mean everything, needs to be maintained – the lawn, the dishes, relationships, your weight, the kitty litter – and the list always seems to be growing, never shrinking! We can find ourselves drowning in a sea of never ending maintenance, our dreams of truly accomplishing something that matters slipping away day by day. The last thing most of us need in our lives is just another thing to maintain but it seems that’s exactly what so many things become – often even things that promise to make lives easier.
The products, techniques or advice that manage to give us a little bit of our time back by streamlining or eliminating a maintenance task or two are worth their weight in gold! And those things, whether tangible or intangible, that bring us real joy are rarer and more precious still.
My goal for this blog is to share the things I have discovered (and am still discovering) that truly make our lives better, whether it be a high quality product that delivers what it promises, a time saving method or technique, or the rarest of finds – something of true beauty and inspiration.
